JERUSALEM
4-9th November 2008 With pre-conference extension 1st-5th November toAMMAN & PETRA

Of all the cities in the world Jerusalem is the one that will live in your memory forever; of all the sights in the world none can compare with the incredible setting and beauty of Petra. Experience them both on our latest Conference Plus course.
Take Jerusalem the centre of the spiritual world. A city of immense antiquity that forms the cornerstone of the Bible. As you walk through its atmospheric streets you are treading the path of David, Saul and Solomon, of Jesus and of the prophet Mohammed it is the very centre of the monotheist faiths. From the ancient city of the Jews and site of Solomon’s temple meander a few hundred yards to the Via Delarosa and walk the very steps of Jesus as he headed for his crucifixion, a spot marked by the eclectic and multi sectored Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
As you look up over the city the sky line is dominated by the golden topped Dome of the Rock, a mosque of intense beauty built over the site where Mohammed ascended to heaven, the same rock where Abraham was commanded to sacrifice his son Isaac or Ishmael.
Within its ancient walls Jerusalem contains a vibrant mixture of faiths, this is reflected in its contemporary occupants, black robed Greek Orthodox Priests hurrying through the narrow streets; fur hatted bearded Orthodox Jews lost in prayer; the bustling markets and tempting spicy smells of the Muslim Quarter; the Friday prayers at the Al Aqsa mosque easing as the Sabbath prayers at Wailing Wall start and then in turn give way to Sunday worship at the cluster of churches of Christian denomination. There is nothing like Jerusalem in the whole world!
Mind you Petra comes close! It is impossible to describe the magnificence of this rose city carved out of the warm sandstone rocks of the desert hidden in natural clefts. A great Nabataean staging post on the Spice Route its wealth allowed it to ascend to troglodyte wonder as whole rock faces were transformed into masterworks of beauty. Voted one of the wonders of the present world, this archaeological marvel just has to be experienced!
Leave the UK a few days earlier and Visit it on our pre conference extension to Petra Amman & Jerash to combine this Nabatean wonder with the Roman antiquities of Amman and Jerash and an optional half day tour to the Dead Sea. Jordan is a world away from its modern Westernised neighbour and makes a perfect contrast with its gentle and relaxed way of life and its ancient Bedouin traditions.
Explore some of the other sights of the Holy Land too with a trip to Nazareth, to Bethlehem, a tour of the Sea of Galilee the site of the miracle of the loaves and fishes and Mount of Beatitudes.
Of course our academic faculty will compliment the venues that we have chosen and you will be able to feast your mind on interactive GP focused education.
