Tallinn & Helsinki - Baltic Gems
21st September - 25th September 2010
The beautiful medieval city of Tallinn is one of the Baltic’s great surprises and one of Northern Europe’s best preserved medieval towns. It has been influenced by the Danes, Swedes, Germans and its own native Estonians. It has also developed fast since its independence from Soviet rule.
Our hotel, the Hotel Telegraaf is located in the very heart of the town & was once a telephone exchange before being converted into a 5* luxury hotel with spa. One of the best hotels in town & part of the ‘Small Luxury Hotels of the World’ group.

The city is divided into the Upper Town with Toompea Castle, which proudly sits on the crest of the Upper Old Town, presiding over the city sprawling below, the 13th century Dome Church and the contrasting Russian Orthodox Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, one of Tallinn's most resplendent monuments. This spectacular Cathedral was built on orders from St. Petersburg during the times of Russian Imperial rule.

And the Lower Town bustling with life around the Town Hall Square with one of the oldest apothecaries in Europe. Tallinn's original Town Hall was established in the 13th Century, and was replaced by the current Gothic monument, hewn from limestone, in 1402. Surrounded by churches and mansions it is truly a very picturesque place to visit.

Only 90 minutes away by ferry is the Finnish capital city of Helsinki with its lively Kauppatori Market Square and the nearby Senate Square with the impressive Lutheran Cathedral of St. Nicholas. The harbour is guarded by the Suomenlinna fortress on its own island. Enjoy a day trip including all the major sights, ferry crossing & escorted by a local guide.
