10th – 13th May 2018

Post-conference Salzburg Extension (13th - 16th May)

Vienna is a magnificent City and one that displays the sophisticated elegance of its Imperial past. At its heart the Hofburg- the Royal Palace, the seat of the great Holy Roman Empire and the Hapsburg Empire, with its magnificent complex of state apartments and treasures including the crown of the Holy Roman Empire itself.

With Imperial patronage the arts flourished in this city and this led to the creations of magnificent collections in museums and art galleries, including the Royal Collection at the Albertina and the breathtaking collection of Klimt Masters in the Belvedere.

There are still other great highlights in this city. The famous Spanish Riding School with the Lipizzaner Horses and their unrivalled skill and showmanship. The broad streets, elegant shops interspersed with some of the greatest sources of pastry pleasure known to mankind, the famous Café Kondetorei. These great coffee houses maintain the atmosphere of the nineteenth and early twentieth century the zenith of this city’s world status. Don’t forget the beacon of Viennese Cultural pride the world famous Vienna Opera situated opposite our classical luxury hotel.

Vienna is more than the elegant buildings of the Ringstrasse or the medieval wonders of St Stephen’s cathedral - it somehow still captures the atmosphere and fame of its residents, from the music of Strauss, Mahler, Buckner and Schonberg, the art of Klimt, the revolutionary plays of Schnitzler and the enlightenment of Freud.

Being Conference Plus, we once again aim not just to take you to a city but to ensure that you experience the very best of it. Start at the Bristol Hotel, it is one of the elite group of Viennese hotels, an extravagant nineteenth century building right opposite the Opera House and affording every elegance you could wish for from the magnificent bedrooms, the faultless service to one of the best restaurants in the City.

Add in our tour and cultural programme. From the sophistication of one of the world’s great opera houses to the simple rustic delight of meals in a country Heuringer. From the mesmeric opulence of the Schonbrun Palace to the fascinating Museums. From Grand Palaces to Grand Coffee and Cakes – we shall aim to make sure that you get the very best from this city.

L'elisir d'amore – Vienna State Opera House Friday 11th May

A comic opera in two acts, composed by Donizetti in just two weeks! and premiered in 1832.

Post-Conference extension in Salzburg

On Sunday 13th, in the late afternoon, we shall say goodbye to those taking the evening flight back to London and board our private coach that will take us the 3 hour drive to Salzburg – arriving in time for dinner.

We shall be staying at the most Iconic of hotels – the Hotel Sacher whose sister hotel is synonymous with Vienna and which will also satiate you with its eponymous cake. It is perfectly situated in the city centre on the banks of the Salzach River with magnificent views of the old town and within walking distance of all that you will want to see.

Our Salzburg extension will continue the musical theme of this conference as its fame is principally as the birthplace of Mozart. Indeed he seems omnipresent from the classical programmes that commemorate him at the world famous concert hall to the Mozart Kugel delicacies that various Kondatorei vie with each other over with their claims of authenticity.
A more modern musical theme is Salzburg as the setting for “The Sound of Music’ and it is indeed difficult to walk through the cities historical sights without humming some of the songs from the film!

Physical, rather than musical, domination of the city is in the form of the Castle lying on the buff overlooking the city and the resident of the Bishops of Salzburg and its historic rooms and its magnificent views which, of course, form part of our extensive tour programme. Naturally we will, subject to the performance calendar, do our best to arrange a concert at the Festival Hall.
We shall be sure to pack as much as we can into our three night stay, enjoying the fact that Spring sunlight allows us plenty of daylight time to explore this glorious city.

Price to include:

  • Three nights B&B in the 5* luxury of the Sacher Hotel
  • Dinner on the first night at the hotel
  • Direct return flights to Gatwick* (note outbound BA from Heathrow to Vienna)
  • An exclusive optional tour programme
  • Concert Tickets will be sorted as soon as the programme is available

Hotel Bristol, Vienna

The Hotel Bristol opened in 1892 and until 1945 was so big that it stretched the full length of the Karntner Ring road. Reduced in size now it sits prominently opposite the Vienna State Opera House and within easy access of many of the wonderful sites of Vienna.

The hotel was named after the British town Bristol and the hotel's entrance door bears the same Lion that decorates the emblem of the town of Bristol.

We are offering two levels of rooms – the Classic entry level room which offer 20-30m rooms, with antique furniture, marble bathrooms and Queen size beds or the upgraded Deluxe room, larger at 40m, antique furniture, marble bathrooms, King sized beds and with views of the city and Opera House. Each room can be used as twin bedded or single rooms (note double supplement applies if you use a Deluxe room for single occupancy).

Hotel Sacher, Salzburg

Built in 1863, the same year Salzburg joined the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the hotel was built as an “Austrian court” hotel by the master builder Carl Freiherr, it was frequented by the ruling houses, noblemen, high clergymen and artists. The hotel became the social centre of the Salzburg festival with the three stars of the festival, Max Reinhardt, Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Richard Strauss all staying at the hotel.

We will be staying in superior rooms – which offer all the qualities and amenities you would expect from a 5* luxury hotel. Rooms are between 20-30sqm – beautifully decorated with paintings and antiques and with bright marble bathrooms.
